Feast of Sharing

Feast of Sharing 2009For over a decade the Authority has teamed up with Safeway to sponsor the Thanksgiving Feast of Sharing event for elderly and less fortunate residents of the District of Columbia. Since it began, more than 45,000 people have been served hot Thanksgiving meals by hundreds of volunteers. The event has even grown and offers community services and a job fair with workshops. Both residents and volunteers look forward to every holiday and making this annual event special.

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonder LandFor the past eleven years, the Center has hosted Winter Wonderland in partnership with the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2C. The event is eagerly anticipated in the community by both parents and kids alike. Much more than a toy distribution, it is a festive occasion that staff, volunteers and families relish.

Windows Into DC and Arts on N St

Partnering with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities was another first, a pop-up art exhibit and street festival that the Center is participating in. Unveiled in 2010, local artist and neighborhood children have created a diverse and colorful art display on the Center’s storefronts and display windows connecting District residents and visitors. And recently, the Center hosted “Arts on N”, DC’s new and free weekend outdoor market and gallery installation displaying indie talents of handmade expression and local art by district residents. Check back here for future festival dates.

Nuclear Security Summit

Among one of the Convention Center standout moments was the hosting of President Obama’s Nuclear Security Summit in 2010 which brought together the largest gathering of world leaders in 50 years. A historic meeting, the Summit included 46 leaders and heads of state to discuss the global threat of nuclear terrorism. The event included receptions and meal service befitting world leaders. By attracting this type of global event, Events DC created new momentum for the District of Columbia to become an internationally competitive destination for conferences and meetings of all sizes.

Fancy Food Show

Fancy FoodsThousands of the world's top chefs, food manufacturers and retailers will gathered at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center this summer for the 57th Fancy Food Show, the annual expo that sets the trends for what you'll soon see on the aisles of your local grocery story, on the shelves of your favorite kitchen store and, retailers hope, on your kitchen table. More than 18,000 food buyers where in our Nation’s Capital to experience more than 4.7 miles of exhibits and checked out products offered by 2,400 exhibitors representing more than 80 countries. The Fancy Foods Show will return to D.C. in the summer of 2012.
