Corporate Responsibility: Environment

Greening Is Fundamental

At the Walter E. Washington Convention Center we understand the reduction in the quantity of waste generated is achieved by measures applied at the source. Our “Know the Code” recycling program supports our intent to divert as much material from land fills as possible.  It saves money, makes sense, and enhances environmental and human health.

Our lighting system is calibrated to align with our energy conservation policy which reduces light levels in our halls and common areas to 10% when unoccupied.  You’ll also notice that during exhibitor move-in and move-out we maintain light levels of 50%, instead of the full light levels used when your event is in full progress.  Additionally, our HVAC system is regulated which uses ventilation rather than mechanical air or heat during move-in and move-out and operates only with system generated air or heat when the event is in full progress.

As an exhibitor you play a key role in continuing our sustainability commitment.  No matter what shade of green your current practices are, there are simple inexpensive consideration to incorporate sustainability while exhibiting here:

  • Use recycled content booth carpet.
  • Reuse carpet after event.
  • Use recycled content booth panels.
  • Avoid PVC and Foamcore signs
  • Reduce your collateral material.
  • Follow recycling guidelines in your exhibitor kit. Recycling Guidelines
  • Utilize the Center’s “Know the Code” recycle stations (color coded stations located in each exhibit hall and loading dock, to separate waste at its source).
