History of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC)
The Society for Biological Therapy was founded in 1984 with 40 charter members. The Society currently has over 750 members consisting primarily of MDs, PhDs, RNs, and corporate representatives. Scientific and business meetings have been held annually since the first Annual Meeting of SBT in 1986. At the 2002 Membership Business Meeting, the SBT membership voted to officially change the name of the Society to the International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer (iSBTc) and then in November 2011, the iSBTc membership officially changed its name to the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC).
SITC is managed by EDI Executive Director Incorporated (EDI), founded in 1962, is an association management company located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With a focus on national and international medical, health and scientific associations, EDI currently provides management services to 27 organizations, ranging in size from less than 200 to more than 6,000 members. EDI clients held nearly 100 meetings in 2010, using close to 39,000 room nights, $3.1 million worth of catering and $1.78 million worth of audio visual services. SITC has been managed by EDI since 2001.
EDI launched a Preferred Provider Network in 2006. This initiative adds value both to our client and vendor relationships through the establishment of a select network of hotel and resort preferred providers. The providers include Associated Luxury Hotels International, Hilton Hotels, Hyatt Hotels, Marriott and Starwood. Priority selection will be given to properties that fall under the umbrella of these providers.
